The hardest part of building with agents isn't technical. It's the change in your own habits.
Everything in this path adds up to a different way of working, and it asks something of you. The shift is real, and worth naming honestly rather than pretending it's free.
From holding it in your head to writing it down. You're used to carrying context - what you're doing, why, what comes next - in your own memory. With agents, that context has to live in files, because your teammates can't read your mind and don't remember yesterday. Externalizing what you used to just know feels like extra work at first. It's the price of leverage, and it's a fair one.
From doing to delegating. Your instinct is to do the task yourself. The new instinct is to frame it well, hand it off, and check the result. That's a genuine letting-go, and it stays uncomfortable until you've watched the loop work enough times to trust it.
From speed to clarity. A vague request to a person who shares your context still works - they fill the gaps. A vague request to an agent produces vague work, quickly. So you learn to be explicit: the goal, the constraints, what "done" looks like. The surprise is that this makes the work better even when no agent is involved.
None of this is a downgrade. It's the same discipline the best collaborators already practice, made unavoidable. The people who get the most out of agents aren't the best prompters. They're the ones who were willing to change how they work.
