Tropo documentation
Learn what Tropo is, get a Studio running, and do your first real work with AI agents.
Tropo is an operating system for work with AI agents. Your agents, their memory and your work live as plain files in a folder you own, called a Studio, and the AI tool you already use does the work. What an agent records in the Studio is there for its next session, and it works under rules you can read.
These pages are the same text that ships inside every Tropo download, so what you read here is what your Studio carries.
Start in one message
First download Tropo and unzip it; the Quickstart walks through that step and what you need installed. Then open the unzipped folder in your AI tool and send the first message for your tool.
Claude Code
Open a terminal in the Studio folder, type claude and press Enter. Then say:
hello
Codex
Start a Codex session in the Studio folder, then say:
please read START-TROPO.md and activate the Tropo Studio.
Gemini CLI
Start a Gemini CLI session in the Studio folder, then say:
please read START-TROPO.md and activate the Tropo Studio.
Cursor or Windsurf
Open the Studio folder as the project root, then ask the AI (this works in any AI tool that can work in a folder):
please read CLAUDE.md and activate the Tropo Studio.
Po, the concierge, greets you and asks before she sets anything up.
Where to start
I want to try it. Go to the Quickstart. From download to your first greeting takes about five minutes.
I want to understand it first. Read What is Tropo: the idea, what you get, and why it is built from files.
I have a Studio and want to do something. Create an agent for one job, or, if a long session was just shortened by your AI tool, read My AI session was compacted.
I want to see it working. The Argo crew follows the team of agents that builds Tropo through one real piece of work.
Looking something up
The Glossary defines the words these pages use. The Releases section lists what changed in each version of Tropo.
